High season

When thinking about the best period to visit the Dominican Republic, it’s worth keeping in mind that there are two different tourist high seasons. One of them is summer months such as June, July, and August, when travelers from the northern hemisphere fill the resorts of Punta Cana, Bayahibe and the small hotels of Las Terrenas. Most of this travelers are from Europe, countries like France, Italy, Germany, and Sweden.

The other high season is between Christmas time (December) and Easter (April). In this period the Dominican climate is at its optimum, not too hot and not too humid, having cooled down a little from summer-time. In this period the most popular destinations are the Samana Peninsula, Puerto Plata and of course Punta Cana. The places get filled by travelers that want to hide from cold weather, mostly from Canada and the States. A lot of retired people stays there for 2-3 months and just enjoy the perfect weather.

Autumn and spring months are considered low season due to the fact that is mostly when hurricanes and tropical storms take place. During spring and autumn, you will be able to save a bit of money and have an easier time to book a hotel room on the spot. But if you choose these periods, keep in mind that the hurricane season is on from final of August until November and the tropical storm season usually is between the end of April and the beginning of summer.
